Mohammad Ehsai is one of the most renowned calligraphers of Iran’s contemporary art. He is one of the most famous innovators of his style, which is a combination of calligraphy and painting (known as Naghashi-khat in the Middle East and particularly Iran). His paintings have been exhibited in many prestigious museums, galleries, and auctions around the globe.
Ehsai studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tehran University, where he later became a calligraphic instructor. In 1964, he began to use calligraphy in his graphic designs and paintings. He worked on the calligraphy and layout of numerous publications, school books, and architectural projects. He remains an extremely influential figure for the younger generation of artists and graphic designers.
